Kent Estuary Young Farmers go the extra mile for Anthony Nolan
On Friday 1 May, members of Kent Estuary Young Farmers’ Club (YFC) swapped their wellies for wheels and took on a 50-mile charity bike ride from Gilpin Bridge to Blackpool.
Among the cyclists were Jayne, George, Harry and Charles Geldard, who joined the group to raise money for Anthony Nolan and support club funds.
Anthony Nolan is a charity dedicated to saving and transforming the lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders. Its work gives people in need of stem cell transplants another chance to live by:
- Making lifesaving connections between patients and incredible strangers who are ready to donate their stem cells.
- Funding groundbreaking research that could transform the future for more patients.
- Providing the best possible experience for every patient before, during and after their transplant.

The group set off from the Gilpin Bridge Hotel at 8am, suitably fuelled by a hearty cooked breakfast – which naturally included ten of our very own Big Yolker eggs!
After many miles in the saddle, the cyclists arrived safely in Blackpool early that afternoon. Wet and windy weather greeted them on the seafront, but it did little to dampen their spirits or their sense of achievement after completing the challenge for such a worthwhile cause.
A huge well done to everyone who took part and supported the ride.
